Getting the most efficiency out of a vehicle is dependent on a lot of different factors but, in case you weren't aware, your vehicle's transmission has a hand in keeping your fuel consumption down. Our favorite Japanese automaker has something in the works to make this even better and, as well, put the competition in their place.
Honda currently has a patent on an 11-speed transmission with three clutches. What this means, put simply, is that a vehicle equipped with this transmission would get better fuel economy and would also benefit from quicker gear changes. Since this is still in the patent phase, we're not sure what vehicle it will be put in; perhaps the Fit to increase the already impressive fuel numbers or, maybe, the Pilot to make the SUV all the more appealing to families. Either way, it's an exciting prospect.
