In 2015, Honda announced its intention to bring the Civic Type R to the U.S. with the tenth generation remodel of their popular sedan. Since then, we’ve been playing the waiting game—taking in both the teaser images and the concept cars that Honda has put out with increasing excitement. This week, the car was unveiled in Geneva.

We already knew that the Civic Type R would be a looker from the concept that was unveiled last year. Fortunately, as is often the case with Honda’s prototypes, it hasn’t changed much from the version we’ve seen earlier. The difference now is that it’s wearing production sheet metal, and the power numbers and equipment it’s packing are now public knowledge.

Where the mainstream Civic is powered by a zippy 1.5-liter turbo, the Type R will house a new 2.0-liter DOHC direct injection turbocharged i-VTEC inline-four (yes, we know this is a mouthful) making 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the turbo, this twist comes into play relatively low in the power band. Another thing that will certainly excite enthusiasts is that the Type R is offered only in six-speed manual.
